Strictly speaking, this is the Youth Hostels Association (England & Wales). The Youth Hostels movement began in Germany in 1909, and the International Youth Hostel Federation was founded in October 1932. Now known as Hostelling International and still based in Welwyn Garden City, it has more than 90 member associations representing over 3,000 hostels in over 80 countries.
